The National Math and Science Initiative seeks a successful physics educator willing to join our team as an AP Physics Content Specialist. The Content Specialist will design innovative trainings and curricular materials that reflect best practices in adult and adolescent education for both face-to-face and online platforms. These trainings and resources will address the College Board’s curricular frameworks for AP Physics 1, AP Physics 2, AP Physics C: Electricity and Magnetism, and AP Physics C: Mechanics in order to support effectively the AP teachers and students participating in NMSI’s College Readiness Program. The Content Specialist also will assist in the selection, development, and evaluation of a national corps of consultants who will deliver training and instructional materials to physics teachers in our College Readiness Program. Candidates should have proven success in the AP Physics classroom and must have experience working with physics teachers at multiple grade levels to help support NMSI’s mission to improve student achievement in physics courses.

Essential Functions

  • Collaborate with other Content Specialists, the Content Director, and external specialists to develop and evaluate materials to support all programs
  • Independently generate innovative lesson ideas and create engaging and effective lessons and resources for all AP Physics courses that NMSI supports
  • Design research-based, innovative trainings of both AP and Pre-AP teachers and their students, using both face-to-face and online models
  • Identify opportunities to improve processes, systems, and materials in order to support NMSI’s culture of continuous improvement
  • Ensure the quality of NMSI’s national trainer corps by assisting in the selection, development, and evaluation of potential new trainers and consultants
  • Research current trends in education and remain current in discipline-related content
  • Employ innovative uses of technology for teaching and learning
  • Consult with external stakeholders on curriculum evaluation and on the integration of NMSI materials into school/district curricula
  • Facilitate teacher training when needed
  • Assist with securing permission for copyrighted materials used in lesson development
  • Assist with other development tasks as requested
  • Other duties as assigned

Position Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s in Physics or related content area required; Master’s degree preferred
  • Minimum eight years teaching experience required
  • Deep knowledge of, and successful experience in, teaching AP Physics or related course required
  • Experience in developing curriculum and leading professional development preferred
  • Competency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook and Web 2.0
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
