Making a difference in Mississippi
July 15, 2013
Today marks the start for STEM improvement in Mississippi. Through a generous grant form the Office of Naval Research, we will begin teacher training in Ocean Springs, MIssissippi this morning with over 90 teachers. This is far more than the grant is paying for which means that other districts saw the value of bringing more rigorous lessons tied to common core into their classrooms.
Mississippi needs NMSI - and needs it bad. From the College Board AP Data -
•There were only 24 passing scores in math and science AP for African-American students in the ENTIRE STATE
•There were only 4 passing scores in math and science AP for Hispanic students in the ENTIRE STATE
By next year, these numbers will be radically different because of our work with Biloxi and Ocean Springs High schools. More to come on the training!
