Celebrating Excellence in Education

Earlier this year we announced the FIRST ever ‘NMSI School of the Year’ to be awarded alongside eight of our outstanding teachers. Last night, we had a very special awards dinner honoring these teachers for their hard work and the AMAZING results they had in their classrooms.  We wanted to share with you what a few teachers had to say:

Irene Mahoney, AP Biology Teacher, Chelsea HS, Chelsea, Massachusetts – NMSI Teacher of the Year

“I left the institute with new ideas of how to flip my classroom, with guided notes; how to tweak my labs for maximum results, and the NMSI teacher resources online that I love. Most importantly, I left with a support system that I knew I could turn to if things weren’t working, and I openly admit I have leaned heavily on that support system for the last five years. I have watched my students reap the benefits of this program time and time again. Great students have been elevated to being accepted into some of the best colleges in the country – Harvard and Yale – other students went on to become the first kid in their family to go to college.”

Stephanie Carter, Lone Oak High School, Paducah, Kentucky – NMSI Teacher Trainer of the Year

“Because of my AP training, more than 200 juniors in my small school had qualifying scores, and 200 more are more prepared for college. Their involvement is credit to the open enrollment that is crucial to Advance Kentucky and to NMSI.”

Julie Stephenson, Ruston High School, Ruston, Louisiana – NMSI Teacher Trainer of the Year

“[My] students were positively shaped by a teacher who was herself positively shaped by NMSI teacher training. In May, their end of course exam results affirmed our work when 100% of them attained a passing score, and 77% of the students scored at the highest level of achievement. This kind of personal achievement is life changing for students who have not previously experienced it. Without NMSI, I daresay it wouldn’t have happened.”

NMSI is excited now more than ever to share resources, classroom-ready lessons, and hands-on teacher training. We have over 40 teacher training events this summer ranging from California to New York. Seeing students become more confident in the course material, getting great scores on AP exams, and getting college credit makes hard work in the classroom worth it!
