UTeach Expansion Program

UTeach Expansion Program hero image
Experts estimate that the United States will need 100,000 more math and science teachers by 2020 to ensure that students are prepared to solve our toughest challenges and thrive in the 21st century. To address this need, NMSI partnered with the UTeach Institute at The University of Texas at Austin to expand the innovative UTeach teacher preparation program to universities across the country. The program enables undergraduate students majoring in STEM fields to earn secondary teaching certification without adding cost or time to their four-year degrees.

The UTeach model is a unique partnership between colleges of science and education that equips prospective teachers with deep content knowledge in their STEM discipline and pedagogical strategies that promote student mastery of core concepts and principles. Since 2007, the national UTeach network has expanded to include 45 universities across 21 states and the District of Columbia.
