Extra Yard for Teachers Summit Set for January 5 and 6 in Downtown San Jose

Free CFP Foundation Signature Event Designed to Inspire and Empower Local Educators

IRVING, Texas – The College Football Playoff (CFP) Foundation today announced that the Extra Yard for Teachers (EYFT) Summit will take place January 5 and 6 in San Jose, Calif., as part of the weekend festivities leading up to the CFP National Championship. The Summit, which will be held within Championship Campus in downtown San Jose, is a VIP, educator-only event designed to inspire and empower educators in the Bay Area. Admission is free for any teacher or administrator with a current school I.D., and families of educators are also encouraged to attend.

Attendees can look forward to hands-on workshops and opportunities to engage with CFP Foundation education partners such as School Specialty, Inc. and ASCD for demonstrations and advice on STEAM lesson plans. Teachers can take advantage of a relaxation space with chair massages, mindfulness exercises and chair yoga tips to take back to the classroom. The “Discovery Stage” will feature live talks from local educators and celebrities, as well as intriguing documentary footage. The Summit will also include activations and installations from collaborators such as TED-Ed and the Science of Sport, among others. There will be prize giveaways from Kendra Scott and DonorsChoose.org, as well as snacks and goodies from Chick-fil-A, Dr Pepper and Dos Equis. The event will provide fun activities for the entire family, including free access and a fast track straight into the CFP’s signature fan experience, Playoff Fan Central. There will also be a photo opportunity with the CFP National Championship trophy.

“We are so excited about the Extra Yard for Teachers Summit this January as part of the overall effort to positively impact teachers in the Bay Area,” said CFP Foundation Executive Director Britton Banowsky. “It’s a tremendous opportunity for Bay Area educators to engage with the CFP Foundation, our education partners, and it is fertile ground to network and share ideas. We are expecting a large turnout, and we look forward to another fantastic Summit.”

The Summit will be open on Saturday, January 5, and Sunday, January 6, from 10 a.m. – 6 p.m. Pacific Time, in the lower level of the San Jose McEnery Convention Center. Teachers interested are encouraged to sign up for event updates at ExtraYardSummit.com.

While the Summit will feature speakers and ideas from across the country, the CFP Foundation is always looking for unique and compelling stories from teachers in the local community. The Summit offers open auditions for Bay Area educators who would like to share their teaching experiences on the Discovery Stage or in the Summit activation space. Interested teachers are asked to submit a written description and/or 90-second video explaining a meaningful story or teachable moment they would like to share with Summit attendees. The submission deadline is 5 p.m. Pacific Time on Friday, November 9. Interested educators can learn more and submit their stories at ExtraYardSummit.com.
