Hard Work Pays Off for AP Students

Leesville, LA – AP students at a local high school saw their hard work pay off, literally, when they received checks from the National Math and Science Initiative (NMSI) grant and Vernon Parish School Board (VPSB) for earning a qualifying score of 3 or higher on their Advanced Placement (AP) exams during the 2018 – 2019 school year.

In Vernon Parish, Leesville High School, Rosepine High School, and Pickering High School participated and had students awarded checks as part of the AP Challenge.

Students were awarded $100.00 per qualifying score as an incentive for partaking in the AP Challenge.

For the 2018 – 2019 school year, 35 students from Leesville High received qualifying scores and 4 students had qualifying scores in more than one area of study. This resulted in a combined total of $3,900 in checks being awarded to AP students at the school.

At Pickering High School, three students received checks. Pickering Principal Jerome Henson shared that many students reported the AP courses and tests left them feeling more prepared to take the subject in college.
