Richmond County School System receives $455,217 grant

(WFXG) -

The National Math + Science Initiative awards Richmond County School System with a $455,217 grant through it’s College Readiness Program.

The program’s goal is to have more high school students taking math, science and English Advanced Placement courses.

With the new grant alone, Richmond School says they’ll be able to fully fund the AP program at the Academy of Richmond County, and subsidize the program at Cross Creek High School, Laney High School, and Westside High School.

The school system said they plan to add AP computer science classes and send more teachers to AP training sessions at those schools.

“This opportunity will certainly enhance our ability to prepare our students for success in college in STEM careers,” superintendent Dr. Angela Pringle, said in a press release. “We can now support students with wellprepared teachers as they accept the challenge to take the most rigorous courses in the nation.  I am thankful for the support through Fort Gordon and the leadership from the National Math and Science Initiative.  This is truly a game changer for our entire school district.”
