Texas Instruments, National Math + Science Initiative Celebrate 16 Year Partnership
August 10, 2016
The Texas Instruments (TI) Foundation announced today that it will continue its 16-year partnership with the National Math and Science Initiative (NMSI) in the 2016-17 school year. Through its grant, which works to improve K-12 STEM education, the TI Foundation will award $1.1 million to NMSI to expand the College Readiness Program (CRP).
“At TI we truly believe we can change the world with education.” said Andy Smith, executive director of the TI Foundation. “NMSI is changing the lives of students in the communities that TI is a part of, and we couldn’t be more excited to continue our partnership.”
NMSI’s CRP is a comprehensive program that is dramatically increasing the number of students participating and succeeding in rigorous coursework in math, science and English, while expanding access to traditionally underrepresented students. The generous grant from the TI Foundation will allow NMSI to expand CRP in three Garland ISD high schools and will launch CRP in two Uplift Education high schools.
“TI has a genuine interest in the work that we are doing,” said Gregg Fleisher, President of the National Math and Science Initiative. “They have a strong commitment to serve their community, and are dedicated to being a solution to the problem of STEM education and changing the lives of those that work with them. We’re thrilled to continue our partnership.”
TI has a long standing partnership with NMSI that spans over 16 years. Since the inception of the partnership in the 2000-01 school year, roughly 400 teachers and over 80,000 students in the Dallas area have been positively impacted through NMSI’s work.
“NMSI’s CRP is such a stellar program - it has proven, scalable results, which is key in our mission to help improve the effectiveness of STEM teachers, and thus prepare students for success,” said Smith. “The program is helping change the way we understand the landscape of STEM education.”
