NMSI Summer Training Gives Teachers New Strategies for Effective Instruction in STEM, English Courses
May 16, 2017
With summer vacation just a few weeks away, students look forward to pool time and time away from their studies. For teachers, summer means weeks of training.
In anticipation of hosting thousands of new and veteran teachers at our Laying the Foundation and College Readiness Program Summer Institutes, our content team breaks down what attendees can expect at a typical day of training this summer.
Getting Started: Thinking about how Pedagogy and Practice Impacts Instruction
Participants start the day reviewing their teaching practices and discussing best practices to focus on the impact that teaching methods have on learning and to learn from experts’ and colleagues’ experiences.
Deep Dives: Content, Instructional Strategies, and Implementation
Teachers then go into hands-on training to experience lessons from students’ points of views before examining lessons and content from their vantage as educators. They discuss classroom best practices, share their teaching experiences and focus on how to effectively teach specific lessons and skills for a range of students.
Day’s Debrief: Reviewing and Planning
Before training ends, teachers review highlights and create plans for implementing lessons and content into their classrooms.
Laying the Foundation Summer Institutes are geared toward non-AP® teachers in grades 3-12. They are open to teachers, parents and other community members.
